FAQ

INSTALLATION

> Are there any instructions describing how to install the final piece at the door frame?

Please refer to the illustrations in the instructions included with the flooring, or download the installation instructions from this website.

> Can I install a Pergo laminate floor myself?

The glueless click joint system makes it very easy for you to install Pergo Original Laminate on your own. Our patented click system, PerfectFold™ 3.0, offers three simple installation methods designed to enable even faster and easier installation. For more detailed information, see our installation instructions.

> Can I install Pergo laminate flooring directly on top of polystyrene?

Yes, provided that the polystyrene has a minimum compressive strength of 250 kPa. If you use polystyrene with a compressive strength of 200 kPa, you will first need to place a board on top in order to distribute the pressure.

> Can I install Pergo laminate flooring in a kitchen with an island counter or heavy stone worktops?

Island counters and heavy stone worktops typically prevent the floor from being able to move freely as the floor shrinks and expands. Therefore, always be sure to make a cut out around the legs of the counter or island, leaving enough expansion space. This also enables easier removal or replacement of the floor if ever needed.

> Can I install Pergo original laminate on floors with underfloor heating?

Yes, but the floor surface temperature may not exceed 27 °C. Always place a PE film between the Pergo floor and the underfloor heating.

> How do I install PerfectFold™ 3.0?

You will find all the information you need at Install with PerfectFold 3.0.

> How do I install Pergo laminate flooring on a stairway?

Be sure to glue Pergo flooring when installing it on a stairway. Use a heavy-duty structural adhesive from a tube such as PL 400 or PL 600. Wood glue will not hold.   As stair nosing, use the 5-in-1 moulding plus the aluminium base for stair nosing. A good end result requires good tools and a good measure of patience.

> How large an area can I cover without requiring an expansion profile in the room?

The basic rule is maximum 13 x 13 metres. The floor may shrink and expand up to 1mm per metre of the total floor length depending on the humidity. For this reason the floor should be installed with sufficient expansion space even in doorways, various room angles, etc.

> Where can I install Pergo original laminate?

You can install Pergo laminate flooring throughout your home, except in bathrooms or other rooms with a floor drain. It is also great for installing on stairs, and in rooms with underfloor heating provided you follow specific instructions.

> Where in the room should I begin to install the floor?

Start in the upper left corner of the longest wall and install the planks in the same direction as that in which the main light falls. Planks are always installed from left to right.

> Where should I not install Pergo original laminate?

You should never install Pergo laminate flooring in bathrooms or in other wet areas with a floor drain. Also, never install Pergo laminate flooring directly on top of floor beams, as there must be a rigid and stable subfloor to support it.

MAINTENANCE

> Can I use a steam cleaning system such as those seen on TV home shopping networks?

No, you should not use these systems as they can press water into the joints, which should always be avoided.

> How can I remove visible footprints?

Wipe a few times using a damp Pergo Mop together with Pergo All round Floor Cleaner.

> How do I clean my Pergo laminate floor?

Pergo flooring has a hard and compact surface layer that dirt and dust won’t easily stick to. All it takes to keep the floor clean is to vacuum or sweep the floor with a Pergo Mop. Occasionally use a damp Pergo cloth with a mild detergent. For floors with a matt finish, we recommend more regular cleaning using Pergo All round Floor Cleaner on the entire floor as dirt can stick more easily. Never wet mop a floor with bevelled edges as moisture can accumulate in the joints. Instead, use a slightly damp and carefully wrung out mop, making sure to wipe dry any water left in the joints. > What detergent should I use?

Use a mild detergent such as Pergo All round Floor Cleaner. Never use soap, detergent or polish. The use of inappropriate cleaning products might damage the flooring surface.

REPARATION

> What happens if the floor gets damaged after installation?

Minor damage can easily be repaired with Pergo repair putty. The repaired area blends in with, and is just as durable as the rest of the floor.

> How can I change a plank in the middle of the floor?

A skilled floor installer can cut out and replace a plank using generally the same method as with a parquet floor.

MISCELLANEOUS

> How does TitanX™ affect the appearance of the floor?

The properties of TitanXTM, including high scratch resistance and high lustre, enable the floor to appear fresh and new for an even longer period of time.

> How long does Pergo guarantee the floor and what does the guarantee cover?

Pergo’s guarantees are subject to local law and may therefore vary from country to country. For more detailed information regarding the Pergo guarantee in your country, ask your local retailer or call our customer care.

> Is it possible to paint the floor?

No. The hard laminate surface prevents paint from adhering to the floor.

> What is a laminate floor?

Laminate flooring consists of several layers of materials fused together through a lamination process. The inner core is usually made from a fibreboard with very high density called HDF (High Density Fibreboard). The decor consists of a printed paper that imitates the appearance of wood, stone or other materials. But even plainly coloured or patterned laminate floors are common. The top surface is reinforced with a wear layer of aluminium oxide, which is one of nature's hardest materials.

Pergo original laminate flooring is constructed in such a way as to provide high resistance against scratches, pressure, impact, dirt, sunlight and heat. In addition to the HDF core and the wear layer of aluminium oxide, our flooring is made with a variety of patented layers that help to create the world's most durable laminate flooring.

> Who do I turn to if I have a complaint?

If you have any complaints about the floor please consult the store or installer from whom you purchased it.
